At first glance, the home-and-away matchups against Duke stand out. The Blue Devils will be ranked near the top of college basketball to start next season, as they bring back Kyle Filipowski, Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, and others, and bring in another star-studded freshman class led by Jared McCain.
Pitt will only have one opportunity to play Miami, who returns Nigel Pack, Wooga Poplar, Norchad Omier, and others, and brings in FSU transfer Matthew Cleveland.
North Carolina once again returns Armando Bacot and RJ Davis, and has also brought in a few talented transfers led by Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram.
Virginia’s Reece Beekman and Isaac McKneely will lead the Cavaliers alongside another talanted Tony Bennett roster.
Pitt finished this past season with a 24-12 record in year five of the Jeff Capel era. The Panthers qualified for their first NCAA Tournament in the Capel era, winning a First Four game over Mississippi State and a Round of 64 game against Iowa State before falling to Xavier in the Round of 32. In last year’s ACC slate, Pitt finished 14-6, beating Louisville, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and North Carolina twice, while also taking down No. 11 Virginia and No. 20 Miami at home.
The Panthers look to build on last year’s success with incoming transfers Ishmael Leggett (Rhode Island) and Zack Austin (High Point), as well as freshmen Jaland Lowe and Carlton Carrington. The Panthers return starting five-man Federiko Federiko, as well as Jorge Diaz-Graham, Guillermo Diaz-Graham, and redshirt freshman Dior Johnson. Pitt’s leading scorer Blake Hinson is currently testing the NBA Draft waters, but has announced that if he does not decide to commit to the draft process, he will return to play for Pitt once again. Players testing the NBA Draft have until June 1 to withdraw their name and maintain college eligibility.
