Parramatta Eels vs Canterbury Bulldogs, news, scores, Clint Gutherson,

The Parramatta Eels have defeated a gutsy but injury-battered Canterbury Bulldogs 30-4 at CommBank Stadium to seal a second-straight victory on the back of a try double from Maika Sivo and masterful individual performances from Clint Gutherson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

The Eels held their rivals scoreless in the first half and surged to a 16-point lead with a three-try blitz in just over five first-half minutes.

The Bulldogs finally got on the scoresheet through a teen gun in the second half to reduce the deficit and keep the pressure on the Eels.

But the outstanding Reagan Campbell-Gillard hit back to cap off a fine individual performance, before Maika Sivo finished things off three minutes from time with his second try of the match and a league-leading ninth of the season to date.

The Bulldogs – already without Viliame Kikau and Josh Addo-Carr – lost Jacob Kiraz to a knee injury early on, while Jake Averillo also battled through knee trouble throughout the clash.

Ryan Matterson ended up on the leg of the youngster who has started the season superbly, racking up the most run metres in the competition, as well as the most offloads.

Okunbor was redeployed to the right wing afterwards.

Jake Duke reported on Fox League the initial diagnosis was a low-grade MCL injury.

Seven minutes later, Jake Averillo also suffered a knee injury, though he was able to play on despite clear discomfort and impairment.

Jake Duke reported on Fox League it was a patella injury that he had carried into the game but was exacerbated by a bad knock.

“He’s seriously playing on one leg,” Andrew Voss said later. “I reckon he’d be running at less than 50 per cent.

A sensational offload from Ryan Matterson found Will Penisini, who rampaged straight over the top of Hayze Perham to open the scoring under the posts, with the Eels converting for a 6-0 lead.

Maika Sivo took himself to equal-first on the NRL’s tryscoring charts this season with his eighth four-pointer. After a quick tap, the ball went to Clint Gutherson who floated a long, high pass to Sivo in an acre of space on the left side. The conversion was successful again to make it 12-0.
