Which F1 drivers past and present are racing in Sweden? : PlanetF1

The Race of Champions is one of motorsport’s most popular annual events, with a healthy presence of Formula 1 drivers past and present each year – and 2023 is no different.

This time around, the Race of Champions is heading to the northern Swedish region of Pite Havsbad for a heady test of the drivers’ capabilities on snow and ice – foreign terrain for those who have spent their careers on asphalt.

The Race of Champions Nations Cup will see teams of two compete for their countries in a series of races on Saturday 28 January, before the individual Race of Champions takes place on Sunday 29 January.

And two former Formula 1 World Champions have already been confirmed to be taking part, with the now-retired Sebastian Vettel set to drive in the weekend for the 11th time – no doubt looking to go one better after being beaten in the final of last year’s edition of the event by rally legend Sébastien Loeb.

Vettel will be partnered in Team Germany by Mick Schumacher for a second time, having alongside driven alongside his father Michael in the event in years gone by.

Team Finland also looks pretty formidable, however, with two-time World Champion Mika Hakkinen once again returning to the event and being partnered by a newcomer this time around, albeit a 10-time grand prix winner and the only current Formula 1 driver in the field in Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas had been due to make his debut last year, but had to pull out at the last minute and was replaced by W Series’ Emma Kimilainen for Team Finland.

The final former Formula 1 driver confirmed to race will be Race of Champions veteran David Coulthard, who will partner three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick for Great Britain in his 15th appearance at the event.

Formula 2 champion and Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will line up for Brazil, with several drivers still to be confirmed for the event as it stands.

Last year’s Nations Cup champions were Norway, with father/son rally duo Petter and Oliver Solberg taking the title, beating America’s Jimmie Johnson and Colton Herta to take the top prize.
